LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball student-athletes were nominated for the Allstate National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Good Works Team.
Colorado College's Chris Martin and Trinity University's Matt Jones are the two players selected.
The award honors student-athletes who perform exemplary community service, and exhibit leadership among their peers. The Allstate Good Works Team will be unveiled in February.
Martin, a junior forward from Sandia Park, N.M., is an economics major at CC. Martin has been a member of the SCAC Academic Honor Roll in his career.
Martin is currently averaging 12.5 points per game on 66.0% shooting from the field. He has also grabbed 7.2 rebounds per contest while adding two assists, four blocks and three steals.
Jones, from Austin, Texas, has volunteered as a mentor for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Texas, and the Multi-Level Educational Youth Outreach (MEYO), an after-school program for underserved children. He also was a Red Cross volunteer in Turkey at a first responder center. Jones lent a much-needed helping hand in New Orleans, Louisiana, in post-Katrina neighborhoods. Recently, he was a member of the Tiger men's basketball team's project for Habitat for Humanity in San Antonio.
Jones majors in finance, and has a minor in communication. He has been a member of Trinity's Dean's List, the SCAC Academic Honor Roll, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
On the basketball court, Jones leads the Tigers with 32 assists in his column. He has amassed 239 assists in his career, to date. Jones is shooting nearly 57% from the field, and averages 9.6 points per game.
