LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Highlighted by tournament MVPs Colleen Markey and Julia Kelly of Trinity University, the conference office today announced the 2016 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Women's Soccer All-Tournament team.
Trinity earned a 2-1 win over Southwestern University to win the 2016 SCAC women's soccer tournament championship Sunday afternoon in Kerrville, Texas.
Markey had a goal and an assist - all coming in Sunday's title match - to finish second among all tournament scorers with three points. Her opening goal in the sixth minute on Sunday got the Tigers on the board and she provided the assist on the eventual game-winner just three minutes later.
Kelly, who supplied the game-winning goal in Saturday's 1-0 semifinal win against Schreiner, helped lead a stingy defense that allowed just three total shots and one goal in the Tiger's two tournament victories.
Trinity had five players earn all-Tournament recognition, as did runner-up Southwestern.
Rounding out the team, Schreiner University had three players earn all-tournament honors while Texas Lutheran University had one honoree.
Trinity's Julie Camp and Jordan Leeper as well as Southwestern's Audrey Silver are repeat honorees from a year ago while Sarah Bevins, also of Southwestern, was selected to the 2014 All-Tournament team. Texas Lutheran's Tara Armstrong earned her third All-Tournament nod and is just the fifth women's player to be a three-time honoree.
