LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Southwestern University's Justin Broussard and Trinity University's Luke Packard each earned D3football.com All-American honors Friday.
Broussard earned a second team nod, while Packard was named to the third team.
Broussard, a 6-foot-1, 235-pound defensive end, also was named to a Cliff Harris Award finalist earlier in the day. The Beaumont, Texas native collected second-team All-South Region honors from D3football.com and was tabbed SCAC Defensive Player of the Year. He capped off his career as a four-time, first-team all-league honoree.
Broussard tallied 60 total tackles, including 20.5 for loss and 15.5 sacks in 2016. He finished his career with 37 sacks, which is tied for second all-time in SCAC history. Broussard also set the conference's single-game mark with 5.5 sacks at Trinity on October 15.
Packard, a 6-foot-3, 243-pound defensive end, has amassed numerous national honors. He was previously nominated for the prestigious Cliff Harris Award. Packard also was tabbed for the D3football.com All-South Region Second Team. Earlier, Packard became a three-time member of the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team.
During the Tigers 2016 campaign, Packard established himself as Trinity's all-time sacks leader, with 27 chalked up in his career. Packard also set a school single-season mark of 16.5 QB sacks. As of the end of the regular season, Packard was ranked second in the NCAA Division III in tackles for a loss, and in sacks/game, and led all DIII players in total sacks.
