LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Four of the league's five women's golf teams hit the links for their fall debuts earlier this week.
Three of those teams played at the Texas Lutheran Lady Bulldog Fall Classic with Trinity University and Schreiner University posting impressive second and third place finishes, respectively. The host school, Texas Lutheran University, placed 10th.
University of Texas at Tyler won the two-day, 36-hole event with a team score of 620. Trinity was two shots back at 622 and Schreiner followed at 629. TLU posted a team score of 693.
Individually, Schriener sophomore Lauren Leslie - the SCAC Freshman-of-the-Year last season - fired a two-day total of 150 (+6) to earn individual medalist honors. The win was her first collegiate tournament title and her first-round score of 74 was her career-low round. Trinity junior Shelby DeVore shot a second-round 73 - the low round of the day - to finish in a group of three who tied for second and one shot from the leader at 151.
Defending SCAC Golfer-of-the-Year, senior Kaycee Bankert of Schreiner (+10 - fifth) and junior Taylor Moser of Trinity (+12 - tied for eighth) each posted top 10 finishes.
TLU was led by freshman Summer Swift who tied for 20th after rounds of 79 and 81.
The Centenary College women's golf team wrapped up its season-opening tournament by finishing 10th of 15 teams, firing a 340 (+60) on the final day and finishing with a 678 (+118) at the Birmingham-Southern College Shootout. Sophomore Jessica Varner shot a 76 (+6) on the final day and finished tied for ninth among all individuals with a total of 154 (+14).
