LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball players earned D3Baseball.com Team of the Week recognition after big performances at home last week.
Centenary College's Michael Schimpf was recognized for his offensive performance, while Southwestern University's Jeremy Rice was tabbed for his pitching.
Schimpf, a senior outfielder from Shreveport, La., continued his hot start to the season when he had multiple hits and two RBI's with at least a run scored in every game of a three-game sweep of Schreiner. He was especially potent as four of his six RBI's came with two outs. With Schreiner up 1-0 after the top of the first in game one, Schimpf drove in a run with two outs to jumpstart the Gents offensive explosion.
Rice, a senior pitcher from Houston, Texas, hurled a nine-inning no-hitter in Southwestern's 21-0 win over Blackburn on Friday. Rice, who struck out seven batters and faced only one over the minimum, threw 113 pitches, including 80 strikes. The only batter to reach base did so on a throwing error from a groundball.
Both players earned SCAC Player of the Week recognition Monday.
