LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The league's four football teams hit the field again on Saturday for the second weekend of non-conference play where Austin College and Southwestern University both picked up their first wins of the 2016 campaign.
In Sherman, the 'Roos (1-1) raced out to a big lead early and held off a comeback bid by Howard Payne, coming away with a 19-17 win at Jerry Apple Stadium.
Meanwhile, in Georgetown, the Pirates (1-1) overcame a 17-point deficit in the second quarter to defeat McMurry 24-17 at Birkelbach Field.
Dylan Wilburn's 13-yard touchdown run with 1:31 to play in the game proved to be the difference.
Trinity University made its first road trip of the season and dropped a narrow 24-20 decision to Millsaps College to fall to 1-1 on the season.
Three-time defending SCAC champion Texas Lutheran University fell to 0-2 on the season after a 56-21 defeat at the hands of fifth-ranked Uniersity of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
