LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- In voting done among members of the respective peer councils, Southwestern University was recognized as the Athletic Training Staff of the Year, while Trinity University was selected as the Sports Information Staff of the Year.
This is the inaugural Sports Information Staff of the Year award, while the Athletic Training Staff of the Year award was introduced prior to the 2012-2013 season.
The Southwestern athletic training department is made up of six staff members: Glenn Schwab, the Associate Athletic Director/Director of Athletic Training Services, Curt Snyder, the Head Athletic Trainer, Dr. Miguel Benavides, Associate Athletic Trainer, along with three Assistant Athletic Trainers, Cari Zubke, Meghan Stelmash and Jena Whitley.
The group handled the athletic training duties for three of the league's championship events this year, including the 2016 Cross Country Championships, the 2017 Basketball Championships and the 2017 Golf Championships. Southwestern, which won the inaugural award in 2013, is the first institution to receive this award for a second time.
The Trinity University sports information department is made up of four staff members: Justin Parker, Associate Director of Athletics/Sports Information Director, Brianne Davis, Assistant Director of Athletics/Sports Communications, Joshua Moczygemba, Sports Marketing Coordinator and Assistant SID, James Hill.
Trinity's sports information department handled media coverage and hosting duties for two spring championships -- tennis and track and field. The group took on a late addition of the 2017 Tennis Championships after the event was relocated to San Antonio in early March.
