GENEVA, Ohio -- Colorado College's Katie Sandfort finished in third place in the women's 10,000 meter run to record an All-American finish and highlight the SCAC performances on day one of the 2017 NCAA Women's Track & Field Championships.
Sandfort posted the second-best finish in Colorado College history at the Division III Championships behind Heather O'Brien's national title in the decathlon in 1998. Sandfort also broke her own school record Thursday with a time of 35:04.69. Her previous record was 35:25.40, set on May 11 at the Dr. Keeler Invitational Track and Field Meet in Naperville, Ill.
Three other SCAC student-athletes competed Thursday.
Trinity University's McCullough ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase preliminaries in 11:05.19, for a 15th-place finish. She missed qualifying for the finals by just over a second. McCullough was seeded 15th, with a time of 10:52.60.
Texas Lutheran University's 200-meter standout Ashley Myers nearly made the 200 final. Myers, a sophomore, missed the final by .24 with a time of 25.22. The last qualifier, Dani Bland of Emory (Ga.), came home in 24.98.
Myers came into the national meet with the 22nd-fastest qualifying time in the 22-person field. She improved on her qualifying time by nine spots, with a finish of 13th overall.
Bulldog long jumper Cortnee Priour also barely made the national championships. She was the 22nd qualifier in a 22-athlete long jump field. On Thursday, she improved on her national qualifying seed with a 16th-place finish in the long jump.
Priour, a sophomore, jumped 17 feet, 4.75 inches. She was in sixth place after the 11-athlete Flight 1. The top nine marks from the two flights, each containing 11 student-athletes, advanced to the long jump final. The final 11 participants received an extra three jumps on Thursday.
Trinity's Nkolika Nweke will competeFriday in the women's 100 meter dash at 3:15 p.m. (ET).
