Trinity Leads After Day One of the SCAC Women's Golf Championship

BLANCO, Texas -- Defending champion Trinity University fired a first-round 337 and will sleep on a two-shot lead following Monday's first round of the 2017 SCAC Women's Golf Championship Vaaler Creek Golf Club. Official Championship Website | Women's Results | Photo Gallery

Tomorrow's final round at the par-72, 5,855-yard layout will begin at 8 a.m.

After the first 18 holes, Trinity is sitting at +49 and is two shots clear of Schreiner University which finished with a first-round 339 (+51). Southwestern University is third with a 344 (+56).

Three Tigers are in the top 10 among individuals. Shelby DeVore and Taylor Moser paced Trinity with an 81 and an 84, and are tied for fourth and seventh, respectively. Elizabeth McGillivray is tied for eighth with a first-round 85.

Centenary College is in fourth place with 351 and Texas Lutheran is fifth with a 363.

Centenary's Jessica Varner (pictured), who finished tied for second last year as a freshman, is leading the individual race after shooting a 75 (+3). Last year's medalist, Kaycee Bankert of Schreiner, is in second with a 77. Summer Swift of Texas Lutheran is in third with an opening-round 80.
