Trinity's Hagmann, Mrkonich Selected as SCAC Female Swimmer and Diver of the Year

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Trinity University's Lindsay Hagmann and Sarah Kate Mrkonich were named the league's female Swimmer and Diver-of-the-Year, respectively, based on exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. 2017 All-SCAC Women's Swim/Dive Team

In that same voting, the Trinity University coaching staff, led by head coach John Ryan and head diving coach Stan Randall, was named SCAC Women's Staff-of-the-Year. The Tigers won their 14th consecutive women's swimming and diving title last month at the 2017 SCAC championship meet in Lewisville, Texas.

A junior from Baton Rouge, La., Hagmann earned all-America honors at the 2017 NCAA national championships as she placed third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.32 - setting a new SCAC open record in the process as well as a new Trinity record. Hagmann also finished ninth in the 50 freestyle, posting a new SCAC Open record with a time of 23.29 seconds.

At this year's SCAC Championship, Hagmann earned Swimmer of the Meet honors, as she was a triple gold-medal winner, capturing the 100 breaststroke, as well as both the 50 and 100 freestyle events.

Hagmann also played a key role in helping the Tigers to wins in the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay, the 400 freestyle relay, and the 800 freestyle relay.

The Tigers co-captain led TU to its 14th consecutive SCAC team title, as well as spearheading a 19th-place Trinity finish at the NCAA Championships.

Trinity's Mrkonich, a junior from Marietta, Ga., defended both of her SCAC titles – winning the 1-meter and 3-meter boards for the third consecutive year and earning SCAC Female Diver-of-the-Meet honors in the process at the 2017 conference championships.

She also qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year and was runner-up on the 3-meter, while finishing third on the 1-meter board at the NCAA Region 2 Diving Championships in Iowa.

After earning All-American honors on the 3-meter board last year, Mrkonich took eighth place on the 1-meter board to earn her second All-America honor and first on the low board. She also finished 11th on the 3-meter board this month to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors.

Continuing the program's dominance on the boards, Mrkonich's selection as the league's Diver-of-the-Year marks the 12th consecutive year that a Trinity female student-athlete has earned the honor.
