Colorado College's Counts Earns AVCA National Player of the Week Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Colorado College freshman setter Lizzy Counts was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week after her outstanding performance this past weekend.

Counts helped Colorado College to a 4-0 record over the weekend, including wins over No. 12 Eastern University and No. 23 Millikin University.

She was recognized as the tournament MVP at the Pikes Peak Challenge after leading the Tigers with 169 assists through the four matches, averaging 9.49 per set. She also posted 22 kills (1.29 per set), while recording only three errors for a .396 hitting percentage.

Counts recorded her 11th and 12th double-doubles of the season over the weekend, tallying 49 assists and 10 digs against Luther College and 39 assists and 11 digs against Millikin. She also added nine blocks and 35 digs.

Counts is the third SCAC athlete AVCA Player of the Week recognition this season. Trinity University's Kirby Smith earned it on October 11, while Southwestern University's Nikki Welch was the first honoree of the year on September 6.
