LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – After being awarded one of 20 NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship Grants, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference today announced the hiring of Rachel Given as the league’s Assistant Director of New Media.
The highly desired and prestigious grant provides funding for entry-level administrative positions at Division III institutions and conference offices to encourage access, recruitment, selection and the long-term success of ethnic minorities and women.
The SCAC is one of just two Division III conferences to receive the grant twice since 2014 (Centennial Conference). Additionally, only two Division III institutions (Bridgewater (Va.) College and Macalester College) have received the grant twice over that same span.
A 2017 graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelors of Science in Journalism and Mass Communicatioins, Given brings experience both in front of and behind the camera, working with Cyclones.TV, as well as the ISU College of Human Sciences. She has also interned with WPTA21-Alive/NBC 33 as summer news and sports intern.
With Cyclones.TV, Given created feature videos showcasing behind-the-scenes content, while also interviewing players and coaches and producing content for social media.
"Out of the numerous applications we received and candidates we spoke with, Rachel's comfort level in front of and behind the camera set her apart and made her a perfect fit for the position," said SCAC Commissioner Dwayne Hanberry. "Ideally, we wanted someone who would embrace the role of 'face' of the SCAC while also contributing in other areas of traditional and new media. Rachel brings both talent and enthusiasm to the SCAC, and we are fortunate to have her on board."
Given is scheduled to begin her appointment with the SCAC at the end of July.
