Trinity Advances to SCAC Final With 2-0 Victory Over Dallas

HOUSTON, Texas – A first half goal by Michaela Bosco proved to be the game-winner as top-seeded Trinity University advanced to the program's 15th consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament final and defeated fourth-seeded University of Dallas, 2-0, in Friday's first women's semifinal of the 2023 SCAC Soccer Championships at SaberCats Stadium. Bosco, a junior forward, found the back of the net off an assist from junior midfielder Kyra Stafford in the 26th minute to put Trinity on the board. The goal was her seventh of the season and fifth of her tournament career, which ties her for the fourth-most of any player in conference history. Similarly, the assist was the third for Stafford in her SCAC tournament career, tying her for the fourth-most in league history.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After taking a 1-0 lead into the half, Trinity's scored the match's second goal when senior midfielder Emma Everts scored an unassisted goal, her third of the season, in the 51st minute to ice the contest for the Tigers.
  • Trinity outshot Dallas 18-3 and held the Crusaders without a shot in the first half.
  • Trinity also held a 9-3 advantage on corners as well as a 58 to 42 percent possession advantage.

  • Trinity improves to 27-1-2 all-time in SCAC Tournament history and has not allowed a goal in its last 14 tournament contests.
  • Trinity is now 6-0 all-time against Dallas in the conference tournament, which included a 2-0 shutout the last time the two met which was in the 2021 semifinals.
  • Dallas falls to 6-8-2 all-time in the SCAC tournament and has been eliminated by Trinity in six of its nine appearances.
  • With the win, Trinity will play in its 15th consecutive SCAC final. Trinity is 12-1-1 in its previous 14 title game appearances.
  • Dallas will ends its season with a mark of 6-10-1.

UP NEXT

With the victory, Trinity (11-4-2) will face the winner of second-seeded Texas Lutheran and third-seeded Southwestern in Sunday’s championship match. During the regular season, Trinity defeated Southwestern, 4-0, on Oct. 13 in Georgetown and Texas Lutheran, 2-1, two days later in Seguin.
