BOULDER CITY, Nev. – SCAC Tournament Champion, Schreiner University finished 10th as the 2024 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf National Championship, which was contested at Boulder Creek Golf Club, wrapped up play on Friday afternoon.
Schreiner finished with a total score of 1,160 (292-280-298-290) after firing the 10th best team score on Friday with a 290. Methodist University won the tournament, edging out over second-place Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University by one-shot, 1,131 to 1,132 with a birdie on the final hole of the championship. The top-10 finish by the Mountaineers was the first of such since Schreiner took home seventh at the 2015 National Championships. Schreiner finished tied for fifth with 221 pars on the week and 10th with 60 birdies.
The Mountaineers’ Drew Hermesmeyer fired a final round of 72 (E), which included three birdies and 12 pars to finish tied for 11th place overall at 284 – the highest finish among all SCAC competitors. His teammate, Matthew McKenzie jumped one spot after a final round 74 to finish tied for 54th with a four-round total of 294. Oglethorpe’s Michael O’Sullivan held on for the individual medalist honors with 3-under final round of 69 to win by one over Methodist’s Cooper Hrabak, 276-277. It is the third different Stormy Petrel to capture the individual national title.
