ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- The 16th-ranked Trinity University women's tennis team earned a 5-1 victory over Christopher Newport University (VA) in the Second Round of the NCAA Playoffs on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers improved to 16-4 this season, while also picking up the program's first NCAA Tournament win since the 2016 season. Christopher Newport was making its first-ever NCAA Playoff appearance and finished its season with a 13-6 record.

Trinity got the night started hot by going 2-1 in doubles. Although Ruth Hill and Olivia Kim fell in No. 1 doubles 8-3, the rest of the squad had their back. The All-SCAC doubles team of Rosabella Andrade and Ellie Hughes crushed CNU's No. 3 doubles team 8-2 to tie up the match. With a chance for the lead on the line, Cate Cushing and Trinity Levy picked up the 8-3 dub to swing momentum to the good guys.

Once the Tigers got the lead, they took it and ran. SCAC Newcomer of the Year, Rosabella Andrade got the ball rolling winning No. 5 singles 6-3 and 7-5 to make it 3-1. Hughes brought the Tigers one win away from advancing with a 6-2 and 6-4 win in No. 2 singles. Hill clinched the first-round dub for Trinity with a 7-6, 6-2 win in line one.
