SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Trinity University Director of Athletics Bob King has announced that Bailey Wittenauer has been hired as the school's next Head Coach of softball.
"Although it was tough to see Abby leave, I am very excited to see Bailey take over as the Head Coach of our Tiger Softball team," said King. "Her experience here at Trinity, along with her prior head coaching experience, gives her a definite advantage as she prepares to put her own stamp on the program."
Wittenauer spent the last two seasons as the Tiger Assistant Coach, leading the team to a pair of top three finishes in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The team won 20 games for the first time since 2016 in her first season (2022), then scored an upset win over fifth-ranked Texas Lutheran University on the first day of the 2023 SCAC Tournament.
Prior to her arrival at Trinity, Wittenauer spent four seasons as the head softball coach at NCAA II Rockhurst University (MO) and earned 80 wins. She also served as an assistant coach at Truman State University (MO) and at Drury University (MO).
Wittenauer graduated from Indiana State University where she was a two-time team Most Valuable Player and a First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference player. She played her final season at the University of Indianapolis, earning Daktronics Honorable Mention All-American accolades. Wittenauer then began her coaching career while earning her Master's in Education at Indianapolis.
Trinity will return 15 players from last year's team, including seven All-SCAC honorees and five College Sports Communicators Academic All-District student-athletes. The Tigers will also welcome eight newcomers for the 2023-24 school year.
