SHERMAN, Texas – Fifth-seeded Schreiner opened the Southern Collegiate Athletic Men’s Tennis Championship with an impressive 5-0 quarterfinals victory over No. 4 Texas Lutheran Friday night at Bearcat Tennis Complex at Sherman High School in Sherman, Texas. The Mountaineers improved to 6-11 and will take on top-seeded Trintiy in the semifinals. The Bulldogs concluded their season with a 8-8 record, their best season since posting a 9-11 record in 2018.
Schreiner jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles. Carson Kirk and Jonathan Barragan opened the matchup by winning the top line, 8-5, over Cash Herrera and Eric Moninger. Jackson Pogue and Andrew Reyes won the second doubles point at the No. 3 line, defeating Jackson Leslie and Xavier Cristan, 8-6.
The tightest doubles match was the second line as Schreiner’s Cole Reed and Max Schechter outfought JT Figueroa and Logan Randall 8-7.
The Mountaineers Kirk was first off the courts in singles, winning the top line, 6-2, 6-2 over Moninger. The clincher for Schreiner came at No. 2 singles as Barragan beat Cristan, 6-0, 6-2.
