Trinity Women Strengthen Lead after Second Day of SCAC Swimming & Diving Championship

GARLAND, Texas -- Behind six top-three finishes, Trinity University extended its lead on Day Two of the 2024 SCAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship at the Garland ISD Natatorium. Official Website | Thursday's Complete Results Photo Gallery | Video Interviews Playlist

Trinity leads with 377 points while Colorado College is in second place with 279 points and Southwestern University sits in third with 221 points. 

After finishing in second place last year in the 500-yard freestyle, Trinity's Audrey Jacobson took top billing in 2024 with a winning time of 5:03.86. Jacobson's win marked her second career SCAC individual title (200-yard back in 2023) and her fourth All-SCAC performance. It also marked the 11th win in the past 12 years for Trinity in this event. Colorado College's Emma Phillips took second place after she touched the wall in 5:08.90. Phillips' teammate, Gina Lynch rounded out the top-three finishing in a time of 5:09.46. 500-Yard Freestyle Interview

Sophomore Neely Burns of Trinity defended her title and repeated as champion in the 200-yard individual medley. Burns touched the wall with a SCAC championship record and NCAA 'B' cut time of 2:02.59. Burns became the seventh swimmer in league history to repeat as 200-yard IM champion. First-year Amy Benson of Trinity collected her first individual SCAC title while taking top honors in the 50-yard freestyle. She touched the wall in 23.42 seconds, which earned her an NCAA 'B' cut time. Kyla Foxhoven finished second in 23.60 seconds while Caroline Myers rounded out the Trinity sweep of the All-SCAC podium with a time of 23.63 seconds. 50-Yard Freestyle Interview

Rounding out the evening, the Trinity Tigers took top-billing in the 400-yard medley relay for the fifth consecutive year, a SCAC championship meet first, after the quartet of Jules Wiehrdt, Foxhoven, Emma Hagan, and Benson posted a winning time of 3:48.15, which was also good for a new SCAC championship meet record. Southwestern came in second as the Pirates tallied a time of 3:53.50 while Colorado College was third in a time of 3:55.36. 400-Yard Medley Relay Interview
