Trinity Women's Golf Make the Cut at NCAA Championships

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – Trinity University cleared the cut line following the second round of play at the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships on Thursday morning, continuing their season and advancing to play the final 36 holes over the final day two days. Live Stats

The Tigers battled multiple weather delays, including one again on Thursday morning after Wednesday’s second round, which was delayed until after 4:00 p.m. was suspended until today due to darkness to fire a second-round score of 311. Trinity, which dropped nine strokes from its opening round, vaulted up three spots in the team rankings to sit 14th with a two-round score of 631 going into this afternoon’s third round. The top 15 teams made the cut and the Tigers are just nine shots outside of jumping into the top-10.

Opening round leaders, Emory, extended its lead to six shots over Carnegie Mellon after posting the lowest second round team score of 296 (+8). The Eagles head into the third round with a cumulative score of 591 (+15).

Individually, Jessica Mason rocketed up 17 spots on the leaderboard and currently sits in a tie for 18th after shooting a second-round score of 74 for a two-day total of 151(+7). Mason, who birdied her final hole of the round to post two-over on the day, finished with three birdies on her card. Her 11 pars in round two, pushed her total to 24 through the opening 36 holes, tied for seventh most in the entire field.  Alejandra Sanchez De La Fuente Molino dropped into a tie for 42nd after posting a second-round score of 79 (+7) to finish with a two round cumulative score of 155 (+11). Molino fought hard after posting an opening nine seven-over 43 to shoot an even par 36 on the back, including a birdie on her final hole for a 79.

Illinois Wesleyan’s Emma Thorman leads the field through two rounds after posting her second-straight even par round of 72 for a two-day total of 144 (E).

Round three is scheduled for a shotgun start later this afternoon. Trinity is set to tee-off at 1:15 p.m. local time on hole 13. The Tigers will be paired with Methodist University and Grinnell College.
