LEXINGTON, Ky. - Colorado College head coach Rick Swan was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association West Region Coach of the Year for the first time in his career after guiding the Colorado College volleyball team to its 14th consecutive NCAA appearance.
The Tigers have posted a 31-6 record this season after winning
the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship and have
earned the top seed in their region for the third straight year.
The team has also achieved three consecutive 30-win seasons for the
first time in school history.
With the first match of the season, Swan reached his 300th career
win, giving him an overall record of 330-130. Colorado College has
won back-to-back SCAC titles and is currently ranked No. 12 in the
nation.
The Tigers had two players also earn AVCA all-West Region honors
this season.
Senior Amy Schornack, a first-team all-SCAC selection and SCAC
Tournament MVP, was named to the all-West Region team by the AVCA
for the third time in her career. Schornack leads the team in
assists after breaking the all-time record for most assists in a
single season with 1,282 assists. She is the only player in program
history to break the 4,000 career assist mark and currently owns
the career assist record with 4,281 assists.
Junior Laura Goldsmith, a second-team all-SCAC selection and SCAC
all-tournament selection, earned honorable mention honors by the
AVCA for the first time in her career. Goldsmith is third all-time
with 1,601 career digs and is fourth all-time this season with 532
digs in a single season. She currently leads the team with 334
kills and is second on the team in assists.
Colorado College travels to Thousand Oaks, Calif., where
California Lutheran University will serve as the Regional host. The
Tigers begin postseason play on Friday at 6 p.m. (ET) against
Hardin-Simmons University.
