SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Director of Athletics Bob King, has announced that Trinity University has begun construction of a new football and track & field facilities on campus.
The renovations began on April 24, enhancing facilities that were installed in the early- to mid-1990s. Because the facilities being worked on are beyond repair, this project – which is expected to be completed by the end of August – calls for complete renovations.
Those renovations include the complete installation of a new grass football field, as well as the complete reconstruction of the track surface surrounding the football field, and the field event areas. Both the track surface and football field will be replaced in the same footprint as the current facilities. Included in the new field will be a new sprinkler system, and the stadium restrooms will also be completely renovated.
Since the field events will continue to be held inside the Trinity Football/Track & Field Stadium, the football field needs to remain a natural grass surface in order to maximize its use for the track & field practices and meets.
“We are excited to provide a much-needed upgrade for the student-athletes and coaches in football and track & field,” said King. “This facility will also be utilized by many groups around campus, including campus recreation, intramural activities, and club sports – serving not only the athletics department, but numerous members of the entire Trinity Community.”
Trinity’s football team will open up its season at home on September 1, 2012, against Howard Payne University, and the new facility will be ready for play for the opening game. The Tiger track & field teams are currently finishing up the spring season. The women recently finished second at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, while the men’s team was fourth overall.
