CLAREMONT, Calif. - Hendrix College's Elizabeth Krug earned all-America honors for the second straight year - highlighting day two for the SCAC at the 2012 Division III NCAA Track and Field Championships hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. Official Championships Website
A Heber Springs, Ark. Native, Krug finished in sixth-place overall with a school record 4,726 points. Krug took seventh place as a freshman in 2011.
On the first day of competition, Krug broke her own school record in the 100 meter hurdles and the 200 meter dash. Through Thursday's four events, she sat in seventh place.
Krug started Friday with the fourth-best long jump of the competition, leaping 5.36 meters (17 ft.-7 in.). She followed with a javelin throw of 29.99 meters (98 ft.-5 in.), placing 18th in the event. Krug closed out Nationals with the third-best 800 meter time of 2:24.98.
Alexis Arnold of George Fox took first in the 22-person field with 4,920 points. The other All-Americans included Emma Dewart (Ithaca, 4917), Ashley Bault (Marietta, 4899), Kaari Jensen (Concordia (Minn.), 4825), Kelly Curtis (Springfield, 4811), Krug, Sarah Thompson (Carthage, 4698) and Jessika Smith (UW-Stout, 4691). Arnold, Jensen, Krug and Smith were the non-seniors in the final eight.
Other highlights from day two included Birmingham-Southern College's sophomore Tiarra Goode who qualified first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.91. Goode also qualified second in 100-meter dash with a time of 11.80. Junior Lindsay Svehla of Rhodes finished 20th in the 100-meters posting a time of 12.27.
BSC junior Jessica Thorton placed 13th in 800-meter dash, running the event in a time of 2:11.82.
Competing in her final NCAA Championship, senior Emily Niehaus of Centre College finished 18th in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.68m.
Freshman Sally Warm of Sewanee finished 16th in the women's high jump on Friday. After her first attempt of 1.55m, Warm finished the event with a leap of 1.59m.
On Saturday, five SCAC student-athletes will be in action. The day especially shapes as a potentially monster one for SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Year, Birmingham-Southern's Tiarra Goode. Goode will run in the 100-meter hurdles finals at 3:15 p.m. PT. She qualified with the fastest time in prelims at 13.91. Just forty five minutes later (4:00 p.m. PT), she will run in the finals of the 100-meter dash where she qualified with the second-fastest time (11.80). And an hour and 10 minutes later (5:10 p.m. PT), Goode will run in the 200-meter dash finals where she qualified with the fastest time at 24.00.
Sadie Yanckello of Rhodes College will run in the 400-meter hurdles finals at 4:45 p.m. PT. Yanckello qualified with a time of 1:01.38 (fifth fastest in prelims). Earlier in the day (2:30 p.m. PT), Yanckello will be joined by teammates Mary Kate Mullen, Chelsea Temple and Lindsay Svehla in the 4x100 relay finals as the team posted a qualifying time of 47.25 - the sixth-best in the prelims.
