DALLAS, Texas - Junior first baseman/catcher Bruce Maxwell of Birmingham-Southern College was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Hitter of the Week, for games played from March 19 through March 25.
Maxwell, who earlier this week was named the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week, helped lead the Panthers to
a 5-0 week after hitting .667 (10-15) with five doubles, two
homeruns and eight RBI.
He tallied 21 total bases and posted a 1.267 slugging percentage.
Maxwell also totaled a .792 on-base percentage to finish his week
with a 2.059 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage).
In Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Berry, he was 6-for-8 with two home runs, three doubles, and six RBI. He also led the team with 34 putouts on defense.
This honor marks Maxwell's second national hitter of the week accolade as the Toney, Ala. native was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week back on March 14.
