SCAC Has Nation-High 10 Honored as 2011-2012 NGCA All-American Scholars

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) placed a Division III-high 10 individuals on the 2011-2012 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American Scholars Team. A total of 602 women's collegiate golfers from Divisions I, II and III were recognized with this prestigious honor and it is the second-consecutive year that the SCAC has led all of Division III in total number of honorees. Of the 87 honorees from Division III, the SCAC outdistanced every Division III conference with its 10 total selections. The next closest conference was the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with eight selections.

Four SCAC institutions had multiple selections. Birmingham-Southern College placed Jennifer Commander and Rachele Struthers on the team; Centre College placed Emily Bachert and Catherine Parks on the squad; Southwestern University had Katherine McCance and Karissa Speck earn the honor and Trinity University was represented by Molly McCarthy and Molly Zumbro.

Chelsea Gatterdam of Oglethorpe University and Mary Reed of Rhodes College were also selected to the All-American Scholars Team.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative grade point average is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
