BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Former All-American Jay Weinacker has been hired as Birmingham-Southern's new head men's tennis coach, Athletics Director Joe Dean, Jr., announced today.
Weinacker comes to the Hilltop after serving as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at the University of Alabama last season. He has also served as Director of Junior Development at Pine Tree Country Club for the past several years.
A native of Birmingham, Weinacker was an NCAA All-American and two-time First-Team All-ACC player at North Carolina State, where he played from 2005-2009. He finished his career as the school's record-holder in career singles victories (106), and tied the school record for doubles wins (87). In his sophomore season with the Wolfpack, he helped the team make a run to the Elite Eight of the 2007 NCAA Championship for the first time in program history. That summer, he achieved ATP professional ranking.
As a junior at NC State, Weinacker qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championship and made the All-ACC squad. As a senior in 2009 he reached the Round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship, which earned him All-American status, and finished the season ranked 33rd in the nation. He earned his second-straight All-ACC recognition that year as well.
Weinacker was also a two-time winner of the ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship for the Mideast Region, and was Team Captain his junior and senior seasons. He also made the Academic All-ACC Team, and was a three-year member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Weinacker graduated cum laude from NC State in 2009 with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing.

"Jay's experience as an All-American at NC State, assistant coach at Alabama, and his extensive teaching experiences with his father at Pine Tree Country Club make him an ideal person to continue the success our men's tennis program."
Weinacker replaces Paul Rosner, who was BSC Head Coach for the past seven years and is leaving the Hilltop to serve as Head Tennis Pro at Mountain Brook Country Club. Weinacker will begin his coaching duties with Birmingham-Southern on November 1.
