Rhodes & Trinity To Meet For 2012 SCAC Men's Tennis Championship

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Trinity and Rhodes were both semifinal winners on day two of the 2012 SCAC mens tennis championship, and as a result will meet for the 2012 SCAC championship tomorrow morning at Burns Park Tennis Center.

The Tigers are now 19-7 after the victory, and will make their 21st consecutive appearance in the SCAC Championship match.  Trinity has won 16 conference titles, including the past two.

Trinity jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles, as all three Tiger teams won to start the day's action.  Charlie Curtis and Aaron Skinner had the narrowest margin of victory in an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles, while Jordan Mayer and Ben Carroll had the largest margin with an 8-2 win at the third spot.  All four players went on to win in singles as well.

Curtis took a 6-2, 6-3 win at line two in singles, while Skinner was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at line five.  Mayer won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, while Carroll took a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 6.

Max Frey also scored two points for the Tigers, starting with an 8-4 doubles win with Erick DelaFuente.  Frey then won 6-2, 6-3 at line one singles.  DelaFuente suffered a 3-6, 4-6 loss at the second spot. 

Top seed Trinity will take on No. 2 seed Rhodes College in tomorrow's final.  Rhodes has finished third each of the past three seasons, and the teams last met in the 2009 SCAC Semifinals - resulting in a 6-3 Tiger win.

Rhodes advanced to the final with a 6-3 win over Sewanee in the tournanment's other semifinal match.
