NEW ORLEANS, La. - Michael Galatas, Millsaps College wide receiver, kick returner, and punt returner from 2007-2010, was signed through Free Agency late Tuesday evening by the New Orleans Saints. Galatas is the career leader in kick return yards (1,670) and touchdowns (4). He is also tied for first all-time in receiving touchdowns (20) and second all-time in all-purpose yards (4,242).

The National Football League ended its 132 day work stoppage on Monday which allowed professional teams the ability to acquire free agents. The Saints wasted no time as they signed the 5'8" 175 pound athlete out of Lacombe, La.

This past season, Galatas racked up 1,260 All-Purpose in 10 games averaging 126 yards per game. The electrifying receiver became known as one of the most dangerous returners in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference history, earning numerous accolades including three consecutive Special Teams Player of the Year.

Known for his speed, Galatas helped jump start the Millsaps Track & Field team in 2010. What ended up being the only season he ran, he was named SCAC Male Athlete of the Year.

Galatas turned heads at the D2/D3 Pro Day when he broke the 40 yard dash record with an astounding 4.25, a new record at that event.  He was then invited for a personal workout with the New York Jets on April 4. Later that month, Galatas was invited for a pre draft visit with New Orleans.

The Saints are a fan favorite being from the south, but their popularity sky rocketed in Jackson as they held their training camp on the campus of Millsaps College from 2006-2008.

Galatas prepares for his first day of training camp Thursday, July 28, as he attempts to make the final roster.
