SUWANEE, Ga. - In just its second year of sponsoring Women's Lacrosse the SCAC as a league is nine games over .500 with a 36-27 record to this point in the year. Colorado College and Centre both remain at the top of the standings with perfect records in conference play.

Birmingham-Southern
only played one game this week, falling on the road to
league-leading Colorado College on Saturday, 18-5, for their second
straight loss. Senior Chelsea Van Voorhis led with three goals and
senior goalie Katie Bates made 13 saves. Van Voorhis leads BSC so
far this season with 29 goals, followed by sophomore Madeline
Golden with 24. Junior Stephanie Gore leads with 67 ground balls
and was ranked 4th in the nation in that category last week. She
also leads with 33 caused turnovers and was ranked 2nd in the
nation last week. BSC travels to face Millsaps this Saturday.
Centre was idle this past week taking a break from
action. The Colonels will return to the field as they hit the road
to play a pair of games in Ohio against Wooster and Kenyon over
Easter Weekend.
Colorado College remained undefeated in conference
play with an 18-5 victory over Birmingham-Southern in the final
home game of the season. Senior midfielder Grace Maloney recorded
career highs with six assists and 10 points, while senior
midfielder Bailey Terhune set personal records with seven ground
balls and four caused turnovers in their final appearance at
Stewart Field. Senior attacker Leslie Jacoby finished with two
goals and an assist, while senior attacker Kelsey Morell set up
another score. One of the team's four seniors was involved in 12 of
CC’s 18 goals. Junior attacker Ellie Cole finished with three
goals and an assist, while freshman attacker Virginia Logue scored
her first two goals and set up two more. Sophomore attacker
Madeline Scherer and freshman midfielder Leigh Nicholl each added a
pair of goals. The Tigers began the week with an 18-6 loss to No. 7
Middlebury College. With three goals in that game, Maloney became
the ninth player in program history to record 100 career goals.
With 15 points in two games last week, Maloney climbed to No. 8 on
CC’s career points list with 148. Junior goaltender Abby Fink
registered double-digit saves for the fifth time this season with
15 against Middlebury. The Tigers have held seven of their 10
opponents to fewer than 10 goals in a game. Colorado College
returns to action next Saturday at Adams State College in the first
of four consecutive non-conference games.
Dallas (2-7, 0-3 SCAC) lost three contests this
past week. The Crusaders fell in a pair on non-conference contests
against Pacific and Agnes Scott. Dallas closed out the weekend with
an SCAC loss at home against Sewanee. The Crusaders are now 0-3 in
conference action and will return to the field April 14th on the
road at Otterbein.
Millsaps played just one contest this past week
falling to Pacific 18-4 at home. The Majors were led by Haleigh
Williams and Jamie Blair Page who each recorded a pair of goals in
the losing effort. Millsaps will return to action Saturday, April
7th in their final home game squaring off against conference foe
Birmingham-Southern.
After completing its West Coast road trip, Sewanee
returned home for a pair of matches last weekend. First, against
Berry Colleg (Ga.) Friday, the Tigers found themselves up 13-9 at
halftime. Unfortunately, for Sewanee, Berry rallied to take a 21-19
lead with 1:23 to play. From there, senior Meg Welton won the
ensuing draw control and then passed the ball to Shelby Koebley,
who netted the next goal. The Tigers then kept their momentum
briefly when Sewanee won the next draw control. However, just when
it looked like Sewanee would tie the match up, the Tigers turned
the ball over in their offensive zone. The Tigers would eventually
add one more goal, however it was only after Berry scored again.
Two days later, a frustrated Sewanee team bounced back in strong
fashion. The Tigers dominated Dallas in a 17-0 win. Sewanee was up
10-0 before the Crusaders even attempted a shot. As play continued,
things stayed the same. Sewanee added four more goals before the
half, while Dallas managed only two shots. As second half action
got underway, the Tigers continued to pour it on. Sewanee added
goals by Olivia Vietor, Sarah Stock, and Emily Hylton. In total,
Sewanee outshot the Crusaders 25-5. The Tigers also had more
groundballs, caused turnovers, and draw control wins. The Tigers
continue to lead the league in shutouts and draw controls.
Individually, Welton has more goals and points than any other
league player, while Page Carpenter leads the conference in
assists. This week, Sewanee will take the week off before returning
to action April 14, at Centre.
