SUWANEE, Ga. - In the lone SCAC match of the week, Sewanee handed Centre its first conference loss of the season and snapped the Colonels five game winning streak behind goals from Elise Landau and Karen Dawson of the Purple Tigers. In non conference action Hendrix picked up two wins and set a program record for wins in a season now sitting at 8-2.

Centre split a pair of matches at Sewanee over
the weekend, falling to the host Tigers 2-1 on Friday and defeating
Roanoke 5-1 on Saturday. Against Sewanee, Centre suffered its first
SCAC loss and had a five game winning streak snapped. The Colonels
surrendered a goal midway through the first half, another early in
the second and were unable to recover from the 2-0 hole. Leah
Oberst cut the margin to 2-1 when she scored on a Jessica McLean
assist off a penalty corner with 15:07 to play, but despite holding
a 18-14 edge in shots and a 16-7 advantage in penalty corners, it
would be the team's only score on the day. Senior goalkeeper Patty
Cowley made three saves in goal. Saturday, five different players
scored as Centre rebounded with the win over Roanoke. Despite
outshooting Roanoke 32-16, it was just before halftime before the
Colonels broke through on an unassisted goal by Erin Bacon. In the
second half, Courtney Kuiper, Barbara Parks, Chelsea Klein and
Sydney White all found the back of the cage as Centre pushed the
lead out to 5-0 before surrendering a Roanoke goal in the final
minutes. White and Alexis Hebert had assists for the Colonels, and
Cowley made six saves. This week, Centre (8-4, 3-1 SCAC) travels to
Trine for a non-conference game Friday at 4 p.m.
Hendrix set a program record for wins in a season by
winning both of their games in Kentucky over the week. Now 8-2, the
Warriors defeated Transylvania 5-0 on Friday, then dominated Trine
4-0 on Saturday. At Transy, the Warriors outshot the Pioneers
33-1 and 22-0 in shots on goal. Junior forward Kelly Rappe’
scored two goals, giving her the school career record with 21.
Freshman forward Erika Jasso also scored a pair of goals and had an
assist. Junior Maggie DesPain assisted a goal, giving her the
Hendrix career record with 12. Freshman Annie Vogt also had an
assist. Rappe’ also set a new school record with 11 shots in
the game. Against Trine, the Warriors did not allow a single shot,
while ripping off 38, 28 of which were on goal. Sophomore defender
Jennifer Koller scored two goals and DesPain added two more.
Rappe’ and sophomore Elizabeth Lancaster each had an assist.
The Warriors will travel to Lindenwood on Saturday.
Rhodes split a pair of non-conference matches this past
weekend with a tough 1-0 loss to regional rival DePauw (10-1) and a
big win over Transylvania. The game versus DePauw was
highlighted by stellar play by Rhodes' defense, especially
goalkeeper Jordan Robinson, who recorded 13 saves. Regan
McLaughlin, Sara Sanders, Sam Anscher, and Corrinne Palmer held
down the backfield that limited DePauw to one early goal despite
intense pressure throughout the match. Katie Faucher scored
the game winning goal just under two minutes into the game at
Transylvania and went on to have two assists during the remainder
of the match. Eleven different Lynx players either scored or
had an assist in the game. Senior Taylor Mills scored her 8th
and 9th goals of the season and Libby Jones added her 4th and 5th
assists. The Lynx (6-4, 2-1 SCAC) will head to New England
over fall break next weekend to challenge #15 Christopher Newport
(6-3) at MIT on Saturday (4 pm) and SUNY New Paltz (5-7) at Trinity
on Monday (7 pm).
Sewanee picked up its first SCAC win of the season on
visiting Centre College Friday afternoon. In that match the Tigers
got goals from senior forward Elise Landau and sophomore forward
Karen Dawson. Also playing well for the Tigers was goalkeeper Anna
Morrow. After giving up one goal to Centre, Morrow stepped up with
a game-high eight saves. Unfortunately, for Sewanee the Tigers fell
to Roanoke 2-1 Sunday afternoon. Looking ahead Sewanee returns to
the road this week with a pair of weekend matches at Sweet Briar
College and Washington and Lee.
