SUWANEE, Ga. - Rhodes had their 13 game regular season conference winning streak snapped this weekend when Centre picked up a 2-1 win over the Lynx in Danville, Kentucky. Centre has now won five straight contests after opening up the season with a 2-3 record through its first five games.

Centre went 2-0 on the week and extended its winning streak to five games with a 2-1 vicotry over Rhodes on Friday and a 4-1 win over Hendrix on Sunday. Friday, the Colonels got a goal from junior Sarah Jessee with 34 seconds to play break a 1-1 tie and end a four match losing streak to Rhodes dating back to 2008. Junior Sydney White had the assist on the game winner. Earlier, sophomore Courtney Kuiper opened the scoring on an assist from Barbara Parks. Senior goalkeeper Patty Cowley made 12 saves in the win. Jessee scored two more times, including the game winner, in Sunday's win over Hendrix, tying her for the team lead with five goals on the season. White got Centre on the board 15 minutes in with an unassisted goal while Parks capped the scoring with another unassisted score with 20 minutes to play. Kuiper and Anna Fuller assisted on Jessee's goals. Cowley had 11 saves in the game. This weekend, Centre travels to Sewanee where it will take on the Tigers on Friday before facing Roanoke on Saturday.
Rhodes split their conference matches on the road this weekend with a 2-1 loss to Centre and a 4-1 win at Sewanee. A hard fought and evenly played Centre game left the Lynx in shock after the Colonels scored with only 34 seconds remaining to win the game on their third penalty corner in a row. The Lynx lone goal was scored by midfielder junior Sarah Ferguson on a pass from first year forward Kat Simpson. Rhodes scored in the first two minutes against Sewanee and never looked backed, going on to win the game 4-1. First year players Mackenzie Holland and Becca Martin scored their first collegiate goals in the match while senior Taylor Mills notched her 4th game winning goal of the season. Sarah Ferguson found the back of the cage as well while Libby Jones, Sara Sanders, and Kat Simpson all added assists. Corrinne Palmer and Sara Sanders both had spectular defensive performances this weekend. Goalkeepers Jordan Robinson and Kelly Whelan both performed very well, recording 25 saves and allowing only three goals in the two games. Rhodes (5-3, 2-1 SCAC) will travel to Louisville and Lexington next weekend to face regional rival DePauw (8-1) and for a second matchup against Transylvania (2-6).
Sewanee Playing at home for the first time all season the Sewanee field hockey team dropped a pair of SCAC matches to Hendrix and Rhodes over the weekend. First, against Hendrix Sewanee gave up a pair of second half goals that proved to be the difference. Then on Sunday, Sewanee had its best offensive performance of the season, despite losing to Rhodes, 4-1. In the defeat the Tigers had a season-high 22 shots and 12 penalty corners to go along with goalkeepers Anna Morrow's 10 saves.
