SUWANEE, Ga. - Centre defeated Sewanee 5-0 in the lone SCAC match over the weekend behind two goals from Chelsea Klein and nine saves from Patty Cowley. Hendrix continued its hot start with a shutout win over Transylvania, the Warriors are now just one win shy of tying the school record for wins in a season.

Centre went 2-0 over the school's family
weekend, defeating Sewanee 5-0 Friday night and Wittenberg 2-1 on
Sunday. Against Sewanee, Chelsea Klein had a pair of unassisted
goals, and four Colonels scored in the team's SCAC opener. Also
scoring for Centre were Katy Meyer on an assist from Erin Bacon,
Bacon on an assist from Sydney White and Courtney Kuiper on an
assist from Barbara Parks. Patty Cowley made nine saves in
posting her second shutout victory of the year. Against Wittenberg,
Centre took a 2-0 first half lead on a pair of goals by Kuiper,
assisted by Parks and Alexis Hebert. Though the Colonels outshot
Wittenberg 33-11 in the match, they were unable to score again.
After allowing an early second half goal, Centre held on for the
win with Cowley making five saves. This week, Centre hosts SCAC
matches with Rhodes at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Hendrix at 11 a.m.
Sunday.
Freshman forward Erika Jasso scored a school-record four goals as
the Hendrix shut out Transylvania 6-0 at Warrior
Field on Saturday. Just six games into the season, Jasso, a native
of Oceanside, Calif., also broke the single-season record with 10
goals and 22 points for the year. Jasso scored the first goal of
the game for the Warriors (5-1) on a pass from freshman Dani Coley.
Jasso also scored goals in the 50th, 56th and 62nd minutes, with
junior forward Kelly Rappe' assisting the final goal. Junior
defender Maggie DesPain scored a goal in the 56th minute on a
penalty corner pass from sophomore defender Jennifer Koller. Rappe'
also scored in the 59th minute on a pass from Coley. The Warriors
outshot the Pioneers 29-2. Hendrix also had a 17-5 advantage in
penalty corners. Freshman keeper Betsy Kelly had one save The
Warriors will return to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
play on Friday at Sewanee and on Sunday at Centre.
Rhodes dominated Transylvania all game long and won 8-1 in
their lone game of the week this Sunday. Katie Faucher earned
her second hat trick in two games while Taylor Mills and Kat
Simpson added two goals each. Corrinne Palmer and Sara Sanders
played well on defense as did Regan McLaughlin who also scored on a
penalty corner play. Sarah Ferguson and Sarah Kennedy were
primary play makers in the midfield for Rhodes today as well.
The Lynx held a 12-1 advantage in penalty corner opportunities and
outshot the Pioneers 25-4. Rhodes (4-2, 1-0 SCAC) plays at
Centre on Friday at 5:30 pm and at Sewanee Sunday at
Noon.
Sewanee closed out its five-match road trip with a pair of
losses at Centre and Division II power Bellarmine. Despite not
picking up a win the Tigers did manage to find the back of the cage
three times against the Knights. Junior midfielder Cameron Herndon
scored a pair of goals in the second half, while forward Karen
Dawson tapped home the Tigers opening score right before the half.
Despite giving up six goals against Bellarmine, junior goalkeeper
Anna Morrow did play well, considering the Annapolis, Maryland
native made a season-high 13 saves. Sewanee will look to get back
on track as the Tigers return home for the first time this fall,
against Hendrix, Friday.
