Trinity's Frey and McMindes Named SCAC Men's Tennis Player and Coach of the Year

SUWANEE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the head coaches in the league, Max Frey of Trinity University has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men’s Tennis Player-of-the-Year – the fifth straight year a Trinity player has earned the honor. In that same balloting, Trinity’s Russell McMindes was voted Men’s Coach-of-the-Year for the third straight year.

Frey, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., is ranked seventh in the West Region in Singles and second in doubles. He holds a 12-7 record at #1 singles. He also has a 17-4 record at #1 doubles during dual matches this season with teammate Erik DelaFuente. Over the last two years, Frey is 23-19 in singles competition and 37-9 in doubles play.

Frey is a four time SCAC men’s tennis All-Tournament team selection as well as a three time honoree on the All-SCAC team. Frey becomes the first three-time SCAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year. He ended his SCAC career with a perfect 11-0 record in singles play at the SCAC tournament.

For the third time in his career, Trinity’s McMindes has been recognized by his peers as the SCAC Men’s Tennis Coach-of-the-Year. McMindes’ eighth-ranked Tigers earned the program’s 17th SCAC title after defeating Rhodes, 7-2, in the 2012 SCAC championship match. McMindes, in his third season as head coach, has compiled a 54-30 record at Trinity and will guide the Tigers to their 19th NCAA Tournament appearance since 1993.
