KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Trinity University Tigers head women's soccer Coach Lance Key has been elected the Division III West Region Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Key, who has completed eight seasons at the Tigers helm, was
previously named the NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year in
2009.
A former Trinity men's soccer All-American, Key guided the Tiger
women's team to a 16th Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Championship (8-0-0 record), and the sixth under his leadership. He
was selected as SCAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year for the fifth
time.
The Tigers registered a 20-0-0 mark during the regular season, the
third perfect campaign in Trinity history. All three undefeated,
untied seasons came on Key's watch.
Trinity went on to compete in its 17th NCAA Division III
Tournament, and seventh in the past eight years. The Tigers opened
the national event at home with a 5-2 win over St. Scholastica, and
then defeated NCAA champion Hardin-Simmons 3-1. Ithaca edged the
Tigers 1-0 in a double-overtime third-round thriller at Ithaca,
N.Y.
The Tigers completed the season with a 22-1-0 record, setting a
school record for victories.
Key has posted a 128-16-10 record (.864) during his tenure as head
coach. It is the highest winning percentage of anyone who has
coached in the SCAC, in any team sport.
