LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Week six of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis schedule was the busiest so far this season and featured Trinity downing a pair of nationally ranked opponents.
No. 17 Trinity (7-8) had a difficult schedule in week six, facing three top-25 opponents, No. 9 Wesleyan, No. 11 Kenyon and No. 14 Case Western Reserve, as well as Div. II opponent Merrimack. The Tigers defeated Case Western Reserve, 6-3, and Kenyon, 5-0, but were edged by Wesleyan, 7-2 and Merrimack, 5-4. No. 1 doubles team Wilson Lambeth/Jordan Pitts and No. 3 duo Tilden Oliver/Jace Akagi-Okuma both earned 2-1 records last week. Lambeth/Pitts defeated 25th-ranked pair Jonathan Powell/Anthony Kanam of Case Western and Anatol Doroskevic/Bryan Yoshino of Kenyon while Oliver/Akagi-Okuma downed Kenyon's Nicholas Paolucci/Henry Barrett and Merrimack's A. Mackay Rodriguez/Marshall Wood. Pitts and Lambeth also posted a 2-0 record in singles play while Akagi-Okuma and Cameron Krimbill went 2-1.
No. 40 Southwestern (9-2) downed Connecticut College and Swarthmore but fell to No. 3 Bowdoin and No. 26 Skidmore. At line two doubles, Alexander Joseph/Dean Dulthummon earned 3-1 marks, defeating opponents from Swarthmore, Bowdoin and Connecticut College. No. 2 singles Hunter Bajoit and No. 3 Joseph each went 3-1, each falling only to opponents from Bowdoin.
Austin College (3-5) posted a 2-3 record last week, defeating both Wheaton (Ill) and Mary Hardin-Baylor 7-2, on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Earlier in the week, the Roos' fell to Oglethorpe, Ohio Wesleyan and No. 14 Case Western Reserve. No. 1 doubles Kenneth Hardy/Siddharth Kortikere was the top pair for the Roos' last week, going 2-1 with wins over Mary Hardin-Baylor and Wheaton. Andres Padilla earned a 4-1 singles record, which included scoring the lone point against Case Western Reserve.
Colorado College (2-3) edged Bethel, 5-4, on Sunday. The Tigers fell behind early in doubles competition with No. 3 duo Alex Kley/Alex Wimer defeating Erik Beckers/Peter Wachtler, 8-6, securing CC's lone doubles point of the match. In singles, No. 1 Noah Forman, No. 3 Jacob Adas, No. 5 Kley and No. 6 Wimer each took straight-set victories to secure the win for the Tigers. Earlier in the weekend, the Tigers fell 9-0 to No. 7 Amherst.
On Monday, Schreiner (4-5) dropped an 8-1 decision to Connecticut College as No. 3 doubles pair Austin Cervantes/Case Voss earned the lone point for the Mountaineers with an 8-7 (7-4) victory over SangJin Song/Zachary Danz.
Texas Lutheran (3-2) fell to Loyola (La.) 8-1 on Wednesday. No. 6 singles Johari Dramiga downed Sebastian Gomez in straight sets to earn the only point for the Bulldogs in the contest.
The SCAC men's tennis season continues on Wednesday when Colorado College takes on Hamilton.
