Texas Lutheran Falls to Concordia (Texas)

SEGUIN, Texas -- Concordia Texas right-hander Calvin Bush tossed a three-hit shutout of No. 16 Texas Lutheran in the second game Friday at the NCAA Division III Baseball Seguin, Texas Regional as the Tornados rolled to a 6-0 victory.

Concordia, the regional's No. 3 seed, advances to the winner's bracket game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday against No. 4 seed Franklin (Ind.). The Grizzlies upset No. 1 seed Trinity 8-6 in the regional opener.

TLU, the No. 2 seed, faces Trinity at 11 a.m. Saturday in an elimination game. TLU and Trinity, members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, have split the previous six games played against each other in 2019.

All games of the Seguin, Texas Regional are being played at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field.

Bush, a senior from Austin, struck out 12 and worked around three walks and three singles.

Chad Curtis (Wolfforth/Frenship) had two of the Bulldogs' three hits against Bush.

TLU loaded the bases in the seventh, still trailing just 2-0, but could not get the big hit against the Tornados.

Concordia added three more runs in the eighth and another in the ninth.

Owen Hill had two hits and drove in two for Concordia. Marcus Thach, Reed Carlton, and Carson Cox each scored two runs.

Nathan Malinovsky (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) matched Bush through the first three innings. He gave up the two runs in the fourth and pitched into the eighth. He struck out six, walked four, and allowed four earned runs.
