LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Four conference women's tennis teams were on the court this past week for the beginning of the spring portion of the 2018-19 season as inclement weather wreaked havoc on several of the scheduled matches.
Schreiner (2-0) posted two victories over the weekend, including a 7-0 victory over SCAC opponent Centenary Saturday morning. The Mountaineers earned all three doubles points as Kate De Los Santos and Kate Woods at No. 2 and Lindsey Reynolds and Iris Montero at No. 3 both earned 8-0 sweeps. Singles wins by Jennifer Garcia (No. 1), De Los Santos (No. 2), Kate Smith (No. 3) and Marlee Daniels (No. 4) - with the last three coming 6-0, 6-0 - capped the result for Schreiner. Later that afternoon, the Mountaineers swept Sul Ross State, 5-0, as Smith clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Matches against Lewis & Clark and Howard Payne, scheduled for Sunday, were lost to inclement weather.
Texas Lutheran (1-0) picked up a victory in its sole match of the weekend on Saturday, knocking off Howard Payne, 7-1, on the Schreiner campus. M.P. Hubert and Madison Dyer at No. 1 singles and Samantha Stafford and Megan Dodson at No. 2 singles both earned 8-2 victories in doubles and Hubert clinched the match at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. The Bulldogs were scheduled to play Centenary later that day but weather forced that match to be cancelled as were Sunday's scheduled matchup against Sul Ross State.
After losing to Schreiner, Centenary (0-1) was unable to play another match after rain in the Kerrville area forced cancelledations against TLU on Saturday and Howard Payne and Sul Ross State on Sunday.
Inclement weather also prevented other SCAC teams from competing this weekend as Trinity (0-1) was forced to cancel matches against St. Edward's and Lewis & Clark and Southwestern (0-0) lost matches to Concordia (Texas) and Lewis & Clark.
