LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - It was a very light week in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference outdoor track and field last week as teams prepared for the 2019 conference championship set for Friday and Saturday, April 26-27, in San Antonio, Texas, hosted by Trinity University at the TU Track and Field Stadium.
Texas Lutheran sent a small group of athletes to four separate meets in both Texas and California, highlighted by a pair of individual victories. Tia Hart and Garrett Garza each won field events at the Rice University Duckett Twilight. Hart won the women’s javelin with a toss 40.03 meters, while Garza won gold in the shot put with a mark of 17.15 meters. Ashley Rynard competed at the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational, posting the fourth-fastest time to date in all of Div. III in the 800-meters with a 2:11.57 finish. That time is over seven seconds faster than the second-best time currently in the SCAC.
Trinity’s Molly McCullough was the lone representative for the Tigers at the Mt. Sac Relays last Thursday. The senior registered the fourth-fastest time in all of Div. III in the women’s 3,000-meters following a seventh-place finish, crossing the line in 10:48.03.
The SCAC outdoor track and field championships get underway at 8:00 AM Friday with the women’s 10,000-meters. The Trinity women and the Texas Lutheran men both enter this weekend’s championship as two-time defending champions.
