HOW IT HAPPENED
- After winning two events on Friday, Texas Lutheran captured six more individual titles and the 4x100 relay gold. Wins today included the shot put, the discus, the 110 meter hurdles, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash and the 800 meters.
- TLU's Garrett Garza and Darren Jones were both double winners on Saturday. Garza claimed first-place in the discus (148' 9") and in the shot put where he posed a new SCAC record toss of 57' 3/4", shattering the mark of 52' 1 1/2" that had been on the books since 1999. Garza, who is a three-time champ in te shot put, is the first SCAC man to sweep the discus and the shot in the same meet since Trinity's Justin Campbell in 2013.
- Jones took first in both the 100 and 200 meters. He set a new SCAC meet record in the 100 meters with a time of 10.56, breaking former Bulldog Bryce Johnson's 2017 standard of 10.56. He ran the second-fastest 200 in conference meet history with his winning mark of 21.53.
- The Bulldog's Paris Foster earned SCAC Athlete of the Meet honors. He won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.01, posted a runner-up finish in the 100 meters, produced a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters and ran the lead-off leg on TLU's winning 4x100 relay team. Along with teammates Ezrael Powell, Tyler Dykes and Jones, the foursome broke the tape in a time of 41.31 - the second-fastest time in SCAC meet history.
- Dillan Wendel picked up the Bulldogs other first-place showing with a win in the 800 meters. He crossed the line in a winning time of 1:54.99 and became the first TLU runner to win the event.
- Trinity had three individual wins on Saturday. Harry Bellow took first in the 1,500 meters (4:02.71), Sean Majors earned top podium honors in the long jump (21' 10 3/4) and Blair Walker placed first in the 400 meters (47.95) in a time that was the second-fastest in meet history.
- Colorado College's Henry Baldwin became the first male to ever win four straight high jump gold medals. The senior took first place in his final conference meet with a leap of 6'5 1/2". His teammate, Tony Calderon, won his second event of the meet, taking first place in the 5,000 meters (15:18.10).
- Kevin McGuirk of Dallas earned the Crusaders' lone individual win in the 400 meter hurdles. He finished in a time of 54.84 and became just the second UD male to earn gold at the SCAC championships - following former UD student-athlete Prince Giadolor who took top honors in the 100 meters in 2016.
- The Trinity men closed the meet with a win in the 4x400 relay. The team of Sean Majors, Seve Rodriguez, Raphael Martin and Blair Walker finished in a SCAC record time of 3:17.35.
