LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball continued over the holiday break, posting a combined record of 7-11 against non-conference teams, highlighted by Johnson & Wales earning a pair of victories at the Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic.

JWU (4-0) remains the lone undefeated team in the SCAC and is now off to its best start in school history following wins against George Fox, 92-82, and UT-Tyler, 94-87. The Wildcat's pervious best start to a season was 3-0 back in 2003-2004. Senior Andrew Romero III paced JWU averaging 29.5 points per game last week, including his second-career 40-point effort in the come from behind win over UT-Tyler when he poured in 40 points, collected nine rebounds, dished out four assists and added three steals.

Southwestern (3-2) remained the lone other SCAC squad above .500 after turning in a 1-1 week that included an impressive 102-90 victory over Concordia last Tuesday. The Pirates saw four players in double-figures in the win led by Brandon Alexander with 24 points. Southwestern has now broken the century mark for points in a single game at least once for four-straight seasons, the longest such streak for the Pirates in the SCAC era. Southwestern hit 100-plus points in a single contest at least once three-straight seasons from the 2001-2002 through 2003-2004 seasons.

Colorado College (2-2) split last week, while hosting the Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic. The Tigers opened the tournament defeating UT-Tyler, 77-70, before falling to George Fox. In the win, senior forward CooXooEii Black recorded game-highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds. CC has now opened the season at .500 or better through four games in four of the last six seasons.

Texas Lutheran (2-3) split non-conference road contests last weekend, dropping to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday before bouncing back with a convincing 79-56 victory over McMurry on Saturday. The Bulldogs were led in the victory by Jackson Willoughby with 21 points, including 4-for-5 from three-point range and adding four steals, three rebounds and two assists.

Austin College (2-3) dropped its lone contest of the week, falling to LeTourneau, 108-69.

Schreiner (2-4) went 1-2 last week with its lone victory coming on the road at McMurry, 92-80. The Mountaineers got a 27-point effort in the win from Matthew Rindahl as Schreiner topped the 90-point plateau for the first time this season.  

Dallas (1-3), Centenary (1-4) and Trinity (0-5) combined to post a 1-5 record last week in non-conference play with the Crusaders earning the one win among the three squads, defeating Mississippi Univ. for Women, 86-83, on Saturday.

Men's basketball continues this week with 14 non-conference contests scheduled before the SCAC portion of the schedule opens next week, when Johnson & Wales travels to take on Colorado College on Tuesday, December 4th.
