LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Five of the league’s six men’s golf teams hit the links for their fall debuts earlier this week with all five participating in the John Bohmann Memorial Tournament hosted by Texas Lutheran University.
TLU hosted Centenary, Dallas, Southwestern, Trinity and three additional non-conference teams for its annual John Bohmann Memorial Tournament, played at the par-71, Starcke Park Municipal Course in Seguin, Texas. For the first time since 2015 an SCAC squad took home the team title as Southwestern fired a three-day two-under score of 850 (290-277-283) thanks to a tournament low team round of 277 on day two. Host Texas Lutheran finished second after firing a three-day score of 857 (288-289-280), while Dallas finished fourth overall with a 53-hole score of 870 (297-293-280) and Trinity checked in at fifth with 891 strokes (305-300-286). Centenary turned in a seventh-place finish with a team total of 917 strokes (302-306-309).
The Pirates placed three golfers in the top-10 led by junior Cade Osgood who finished tied for third with three-under 54-hole total of 210. Osgood was the lone golfer in the field to finish under par in par three scoring, averaging 2.92 strokes per hole. TLU was led by the individual medalist of the event, senior Colin Uecker. Uecker improved each round of the tournament, firing a six-under three-day total of 207. In addition, Uecker finished the three-day event with 12 total birdies.
Dallas, which set a program-record score for a three-day event was led by sophomore Emilio Montalvo. Montalvo set the Crusaders individual low for a three-day event, carding a two-under 212, including a personal best 69 on the final day of competition to finish tied for fifth. Trinity was paced by DJ Springer who finished tied for 16th (218), while Centenary’s Reed Balcerowicz led the Gents after finishing tied for 10th (216).
Conference teams return to the course this weekend with three events on the schedule, highlighted by Schreiner opening up its 2018-19 campaign at the Rockwind Links Invitational.
