LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - It was a full week on the SCAC women’s golf circuit as four of the league’s six teams were in action, highlighted by Schreiner, Southwestern and Texas Lutheran competing at the Rockwind Links Invitational.
Schreiner paced SCAC squads at the event hosted by McMurry University in Hobbs, N.M. after posting a 54-hole team score of 651 (333-318) to finish in second. Hardin-Simmons took home the team title, edging the Mountaineers by nine-strokes with a total of 642. Southwestern finished fourth, carding a team total of 667 (335-332) and Texas Lutheran in seventh with 701 strokes.
Individually, Schreiner was led by junior Reygan Rodriguez who finished in a two-tie for second following rounds of 81 and 75 for a two-day total of 156. Overall, the Mountaineers placed three golfers in the top-10 as senior Piper Gleadhill finished tied for seventh (164) and junior Katelyn Smith finished tied for 10th (165).
Southwestern was led by junior Leilani McDaniel after she turned in a two-day total of 159 to finish tied for fifth, while Texas Lutheran junior Summer Swift led the Bulldogs after carding 165 and a tie for 10th.
Johnson & Wales Women's Golf opened their first ever season at the Nebraska Wesleyan University Fall Classic held at Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb. Freshman Maya Romero finished 10th in her first collegiate event after posting a two-day total of 203.
Rodriguez finished in a tie for second out of 45 total golfers at the Rockwind Links Invitational with a 36-hole score of 156 (81-75) on the par-72, 6,015-yard Rockwind Championship Course in Hobbs, N.M. Rodriguez also led the Mountaineers to a second-place finish out of nine teams with a two-round score of 651 (333-318).
