Trinity's Johnston Named D3Soccer.com All-American

LAWRENCVILLE, Ga. -- Trinity junior Brady Johnston has been elected to the D3soccer.com All-America Second Team.

Earlier, the talented Johnston was selected for the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-America First Team. Johnston was also named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year, the SCAC Tournament Offensive Most Valuable Player, and to the All-SCAC First Team.

Johnston contributed greatly to Trinity's seventh consecutive SCAC Championship, scoring the Tigers' only goal in the 1-1 double-overtime tie in the final against Southwestern (TX) University. During the shootout, Johnston fired in the penalty kick, which resulted in the Tigers' 21st overall conference title.

He scored nine goals and chalked up four assists in the season, as well as accounting for three game-winners. Johnston also led Trinity's defense, which allowed opponents just .77 goals per game. The Tigers also amassed 10 clean-sheet games in the campaign.

Head Coach Paul McGinlay completed his 28th year at the helm. Trinity finished the season with a 17-2-3 record, and D3soccer.com ranked the Tigers #8 in the nation by the final poll of the season. Trinity a made its 17th consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearance this year and the 22nd overall. The Tigers bested Chapman (CA) University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) in the opening rounds of the NCAA postseason event played on Trinity's field. The team headed to Chicago, Illinois, for its sixth NCAA Round of 16 appearance in the last seven years, but the host University of Chicago (IL) ended Trinity's season in the third round.

Coach McGinlay and his assistant coaches were elected the NCAA Division III West Region Staff of the Year by United Soccer Coaches. Sharing the accolades were Assistant Coaches Edward Cartee, Lance Key, Kellen Reid, Luc Scranton, Callum Squires, and Diego Restrepo.
