LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- In an announcement made Friday afternoon from the conference office, Southwestern University's Mary Cardone was named the 2019 SCAC Women's Tennis Elite 19 award winner.
Cardone, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, currently holds a 3.884 GPA and was an All-SCAC first team selection on this year's all-conference women's tennis team. She was the SCAC Women's Tennis Player-of-the-Year as a freshman in 2017 and has finished as runner-up for the award the last two years.
This past fall, Cardone was recognized as the league's Elite 19 recipient for women's soccer, making her the first dual winner in the history of the award.
The SCAC Elite 19 is awarded to the student-athlete who has at least a cumulative 3.25 GPA, at least 60 credit hours and earns All-SCAC honors for that particular season. A student-athlete will be honored annually from each of the league's 19 conference-sponsored sports and will be recognized at the site at that year's conference championship event.
This is the inaugural year of the SCAC Elite 19 award.
