Complete Release

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- It was a busy week for Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball as all seven squads took the field.

No. 6 Texas Lutheran (24-8, 9-3) swept its weekend road series with Centenary (16-20-1, 8-7) in three games that were decided by a total of five runs. Junior second baseman Austin Colon paced the Bulldog effort, batting .467 (7-for-15) with three RBI while junior outfielder Tyler Cauley posted a .500 on base percentage. Senior infielder Thomas Varner added a team-high six RBI and freshman utility player Blade Strzelczyk cashed in five runs for TLU. In the series opener, freshman left-hander Matthew Hickey tossed three scoreless innings of relief, picking up three strike outs to earn the win in the 11-10 extra inning victory.

Despite dropping the series opener to Southwestern, No. 4 Trinity (26-9, 11-4) battled back to pick up the 2-1 series win on the road over the weekend. Earlier in the week, the Tigers went 1-1 in non-conference action, falling to Our Lady of the Lake, 14-3, on Tuesday but bouncing back to defeat Mary Hardin-Baylor, 6-3, the next day. The Tigers were led by sophomore infielder Jack Wisniewski who went 7-for-14 at the plate (.500) with five runs scored and four RBI. Senior infielder Dalys Binder slugged .667, chipping in four extra base hits while junior outfielder Rafe Chaumette added a .571 slugging percentage with two homes runs and five RBI. First-year RHP Arjun Thakar collected six strikeouts through 6.2 innings in the win over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Wednesday.

In a five-game homestand, Southwestern (18-14, 6-6) posted a 2-3 mark last week, earning the series opening win over Trinity and a non-conference victory over Arlington Baptist. The Pirates dropped the series with the Tigers, falling in games two and three, and were also defeated by reigning Division III National Champion Texas-Tyler. Through the five-game stretch, junior Byron Dowdell II tallied a team-high six hits and six RBI, including a home run, while sophomore outfielder Hayden Craig scored a team-leading eight runs. In the series’ opening win over Trinity, sophomore right-hander Austin Smith recorded his fourth double-digit strike out game in a row and his sixth this season, sitting 11 batters and allowing just one hit in a complete game.

Schreiner (12-22, 5-7) earned the 2-1 series win over Dallas at home over the weekend. The Mountaineers were defeated by Hardin-Simmons, 12-5, on Tuesday in non-conference action. Junior infielder Josh Gilliam led the way for Schreiner, slugging 1.000 with two home runs and 11 RBI while sophomore infielder Chace Goins also faired-well posting a .545 slugging percentage and scoring three runs. Through three appearances on the mound for the Mountaineers, sophomore Andrew Casteneda managed a 1.42 ERA, striking out 10 batters through 6.1 innings of relief while allowing just one hit and picking up the 12-7 decision in game two against Dallas.

Dallas (16-17, 3-9) took game one of the series against Schreiner but fell earlier in the week to Hardin-Simmons, 12-2. Over the course of the week, Dallas was paced by junior third baseman Nathan Patton who went 6-for-11 at the plate (.545) and slugged .818 while adding five runs scored and five RBI. Senior outfielder Jordan Stickler batted .455 (5-for-11) while posting a .600 on base percentage. Junior LHP Conrad Voss turned in another impressive performance on the mound for the Crusaders, collecting the series opening win over Schreiner with three strike outs while allowing just one run through eight innings of work.

Austin College (7-19, 3-9) took the weekend off but managed to squeeze in a pair of non-conference games, dropping both to LeTourneau and Texas-Dallas. During the stretch, junior outfielder Bennet Regan and freshman infielder Jake Webster each turned in .500 weeks at the plate for the 'Roos.
