#19 UMW Women's Tennis Falls to #38 Southwestern, 5-4, on Saturday

The 19th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to #38 Southwestern (Tx.) University on Saturday morning at a windy Battleground Complex as part of the Blue/Gray Invitational. The Eagles fall to 6-1 on the season.

Southwestern gained the early lead in doubles, taking two of three doubles matches to lead 2-1 entering singles. The Eagles gained a point at one, as Rachel Summers and Lauren Quinn topped Esthere Bowers and Cecile Wilde, 8-5.

In singles, UMW gained a point early with Olivia Moore winning at six, 6-3, 6-1, but Southwestern claimed wins at the top three spots to take a 5-2 lead. UMW battled back with three set wins at four by Danielle Mirabella, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5), and from Rachel Cooper at five, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday morning as they host Kenyon College at 11 a.m.
