LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – It was a busy week for Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis as six of the seven squads hit the court for nine contests.
Colorado College made its 2019 spring debut, sweeping Concordia (Neb), 9-0. The Tigers were strong in doubles competition as No. 1 duo Noah Forman/Daniel Holland and No. 2 pair Christian Kitchen/Alex Kley took their matches, 8-3, while No. 3 team Jacob Adas/Alex Wimer took down Thomas Greeff/Joseph Bindl, 8-1. In singles, No. 1 Foreman, No 4. Adas, No. 5 Kley and No. 6 Wimer all downed opponents in straight sets, securing the victory for CC.
Southwestern earned a 7-2 win over Occidental in its lone match of the week. The Pirates trailed early in the match, earning just one point in doubles competition as No. 2 Alexander Joseph/Dean Dulthummon defeated Ivan Derrick/Christian Anderson, 8-3. However, strong singles play lifted SU to victory as No. 1 Alex Dimanche, No. 2 Hunter Bajoit, No. 3 Joseph and No. 4 Dulthummon all earned straight-set victories.
Texas Lutheran earned a pair of victories over SCAC opponent Centenary and Copiah-Lincoln Community College. The Bulldogs were dominant, allowing their opponents just one point all weekend. Against Centenary, the Bulldogs swept doubles competition as No. 1 Alex Talley/Eric Wendt topped Nathan Lim/Max Wamsley, No. 2 Mario Martinez/Jared Mason overcame Kevin Le/Pius Lau and No. 3 Matthew Stephenson/Johari Dramiga downed Divine Martin/Miguel Vasquez. In singles, No. 4 Matthew Stephenson swept Lau 6-0,6-0, while No. 2 Mason, No. 5 Jacob Galindo and No. 6 Dramiga each took 6-0, 6-1 victories. No. 1 Martinez and No. 3 Nick Roccaforte earned wins of 6-1,6-1 and 6-2, 6-1, respectively. Against Copiah-Lincoln, the No. 3 through No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles matches were determined by walkovers, all in favor of TLU. No. 1 singles Josh Bowman ousted of Drew Nelson, 6-4, 6-2, and No. 2 Josh Flores took care of Toby White, 6-2, 6-1.
Schreiner split its games last week, earning a 5-0 win over Howard Payne on Tuesday but falling to Occidental, 9-0, on Friday. In the victory, No. 1 doubles Joshua Newman/Matthew Jimenez and No. 2 Austin Cervantes/Casey Voss won their matches with little resistance, defeating each of their opponents, 8-0, while the third doubles match was determined by a walkover in favor of the Mountaineers. No. 4 singles Mario Gallinar downed Tevin Stevens, 6-0, 6-1, and No. 5 Juan Ortiz topped Tyler Dingle, 6-1, 6-1.
No. 17 Trinity dropped an 8-1 decision to No. 4 Emory on Saturday. The No. 1 doubles line of Jordan Pitts/Wilson Lambeth earned the Tigers’ lone point of the match, upsetting Jonathan Jemison/Adrien Bouchet, 8-7 (11-9).
Centenary fell to Louisiana College, 6-3, on Sunday with No. 2 singles Nathan Lin, No. 3 Wamsley and No. 6 Vasquez each earning victories in the loss.
The SCAC men's tennis schedule continues on Tuesday when Trinity takes on Case Western Reserve and Div. I opponent Merrimack while Austin College matches up with Oglethorpe and Ohio Wesleyan.
