LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity (12-1-1, 10-1-0), Southwestern (9-4-1, 7-3-1) and Texas Lutheran (8-5-0, 7-4-0) all earned a pair of important SCAC wins last week as teams battle for position heading into the final two weeks of the men’s soccer regular season.
Trinity opened the week with a come from behind overtime victory against TLU last Wednesday. The Tigers scored in the 71st minute to tie the game and scored the game-winner in the 100th minute for the 2-1 victory. Trinity then responded to its lone loss in SCAC play this year by shutting out Dallas (7-4-0, 6-3-0), 3-0, on Sunday.
TLU bounced back from its loss to Trinity on Wednesday by defeating Colorado College (10-5-0, 8-4-0), 2-1, on Friday and Johnson & Wales (5-7-1, 3-7-1), 3-1, on Sunday. The seven wins in conference play tie a Bulldog record for most SCAC wins in a season since TLU joined the league in 2013.
Southwestern posted a 2-1 mark last week in league play, defeating Schreiner (3-11-2, 2-9-2), 4-0, on Tuesday, falling to JWU on Friday and defeating Colorado College, 3-2, in overtime on Sunday. Not only did the Pirates erase a two-goal deficit against the CC Tigers for the win but it marked the first time Southwestern has swept Colorado College in the regular season since the SCAC started playing conference opponents twice a year in 2012.
In other SCAC action, Dallas knocked off Schreiner in double overtime last Friday, 3-2. Centenary (2-12-2, 0-11-1) took a week off from league play but defeated Miss. Univ. for Women, 3-1, on Saturday.
League play continues this week with three contests scheduled each on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.
