LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference outdoor track & field season resumed last weekend as six teams competed, highlighted by Johnson & Wales opening its outdoor season at the Jerry Quiller Classic hosted by Colorado.

Colorado College traveled to participate in the non-scoring CSU-Pueblo Early Bird meet and came away with several highlight performances on both the men's and women's side. Senior Henry Baldwin posted a first-place finish to lead the Tiger men after finishing tied for first in the high jump with a mark 2.00 meters. On the track sophomore Paul Olsen produced a ninth-place result in the 5K, completing the race in 16:03.23. Senior Leah Veldhuisen also turned in a first-place performance winning the women's 5,000-meters, breaking the tape in 19:37.86. Freshman Megan Koch continued her stellar spring by finishing seventh in the 1,500-meters with a personal-best outdoor time of 4:54.66 and in field action, sophomore Camille Weaver finished third in the triple jump with a mark 11.01 meters.

Johnson & Wales opened its outdoor season at the non-scored Jerry Quiller Classic hosted by the University of Colorado last Saturday. Junior Bryce Moore led the way for the men's team, finishing 11th in the 400-meters with a time of 52.98 and 16th in the 1,500-meters, crossing the line in 4:16.05. Junior Catherine Carbeck finished seventh overall in the women's 400-meters with a time of 1:04.94 and junior Rebecca Brock led the women's team in the 1,500-meters with an 18th place overall finish in a time of 5:50.37.

Schreiner, Southwestern, Texas Lutheran, Trinity and several other area schools participated in the non-scoring UIW Spring Break Classic last Thursday and Friday, hosted by the University of Incarnate Word. Freshman Matthew Wilding led the way for the Schreiner men's program after crossing the line in 11.79 to finish 15th in the 100-meter Dash. The Mountaineer women's program was led by Jessica Gaines who turned in an 11th-place finish in the 800-meters with a time of 2:53.37.

JaeLynn Stewart broke the Southwestern women's shot put record with a toss of 11.77 meters to finish fourth overall and first among Div. III athletes. Morgan Gilpin had an outstanding performance for the Pirates in the javelin after finishing third overall and first out of Div. III athletes with a mark of 31.12 meters. Southwestern men's highlights included Devin Rosas setting a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 6.74 meters for a fourth-place finish.

Texas Lutheran collected 10 top-four finishes led by sophomore Nathan Howell winning the men's triple jump by hitting 12.80 meters. Other highlights included second-place finishes from, senior Garrett Garza in the shot put (16.42m), sophomore Ryan Geiger in the javelin (47.48m) and sophomore Heath McDonough in the high jump (1.85m). On the track, junior Darren Jones earned third in the 100- (10.95) and fourth in the 200-meters (21.99). Senior Ashley Myers finished fourth in the 200-meters (25.72), junior Ashley Rynard clocked in fourth in the 1,500-meters (4:52.28) and senior Kylee Garcia checked in at fourth in the 800-meters (2:22.30) to lead the Bulldog women's team.

Junior Brianna Ratliff matriculated a runner-up finish in the women's 3,000-meter run with a personal-record time of 10:28.79 to lead the Trinity Tigers. Ratliff also posted a personal best of 4:55.58 in the 1,500-meter run. Senior Mia Loseff finished third in the pole vault with a height of 3.5 meters. On the men's side, freshman Robert Slaybaugh finished second in the discuss throw with a personal-best mark of 45.93. Slaybaugh also posted a mark of 14.05 meters in the shot put and 37.45 meters in the hammer throw, with both earning a spot in the top five of the TU record books.

SCAC outdoor track & field continues this week, highlighted by Texas Lutheran hosting Austin College, Dallas, Schreiner and several other area schools for the D3 Challenge Meet on Saturday.
