GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Trinity sophomore Daniel Valmassei earned All-America honors with a fourth-place finish Thursday on the men's 1-meter board at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships. Valmassei became the Tigers' highest-finishing men's diver in the 1-meter, tallying 497.70 points in the finals, just 3.45 points behind the third-place finisher. Earlier in the day, the sophomore advanced to the final round after posting a score of 477.20 in the preliminaries.
Sophomore Anthony Liva also competed in the men's low board, finishing in 21st place and, on Wednesday, freshman Maren Merwarth took 28th on the women's high board competition with a score of 341.50. Merwarth will finish out the competition on the 1-meter board on Friday while Valmassei and Liva will conclude their national bids on the 3-meter board on Saturday.
In swimming, sophomore Beau Tipton competed in the men's 200 free where he placed 25th with a time of 1:40.97 while classmate Mabel Fowler earned 36th (5:04.87) in the women's 500 free on Wednesday and 33rd (1:53.57) in the 200 free on Thursday. Tipton will wrap up competition on Friday in the 200 fly and Fowler is set to compete in her final event, the 200 free, on Saturday.
