LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The spring portion of the 2019 SCAC women's golf season got underway over the last two weeks as four of the league's teams were in action.
The Southwestern women finished tied for third in the Claud Jacobs Invitational at the Club at Colony Creek last week, and followed that with a second place finish yesterday in the Linda Lowery Invitational.
Valentina Olivieri paced the Pirates at the Claud Jacobs event with a score of 158, shooting an 81 on the first day and improving to 77 on the second, tying for seventh individually. Katherine Dyo tied for 12th with a 162. Mikayla Miller rounded out the Pirates' in the top 20 with a tie at 19, scoring a 167.
After leading day one, The Pirates finished second in the Linda Lowery Invitational, with a total score of 701. Finishing in second place for individuals, Leilani McDaniel led the Pirates by scoring 81-82-163 (+11) with two birdies and had the most pars out of anyone totaling 17 par. Miller, who tied in eighth place, scored 90-93-183 (+22) with one birdie and 12 par.
Schreiner's women played at the Battle at Camp Bowie last week, which was a match-play event contested at Brownwood Country Club. The Mountaineers defeated East Texas Baptist in the third place match.
The Johnson & Wales University women's golf team wrapped up its first spring tournament with the second and final round of the Linda Lowery Invitational on Tuesday at River Place Country Club.
Both competitors in the field representing the Wildcats improved their scores from Monday's opening round. Junior Shundiin Kauffman finished 18 shots better in Round 2, shooting a 136 for a two-round total of 290 to finish 24th individually.
The Centenary College women played at the Tyler Junior College Spring Intercollegiate which ended yesterday at the Oak Hurst Golf Club in Bullard, Texas. The Ladies finished in sixth place, shooting a two day total of 854 (431-423). Senior Shannon Orlopp led the team with a 188 (88-100) for a two round score of 44 over par and a 20th place individual finish.
